Artist's Statement:
My research in psychology inspires my pieces, which act as an expression of my experiences with relationships and connection to place. Most often, I transform my own photographs into figurative moments with multi-layer relief prints, oil on wood panel and canvas, graphite, charcoal, chalk, and colored pencil. My landscapes in particular preserve my coming-of-age memories in the untouched wilderness of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where I spend my summers and Coastal Maine where I attended an outdoor-immersive semester school. Additionally, I’m inspired by the changing light and shadows that are cast on and within buildings, especially the striking silhouettes of the walls, windows, railings, and their respective shadows in my home in Los Angeles. My work, ranging from photorealistic to abstract, explores how these temporary scenes and elements in combination with color and transparency can act as a vessel for defining the mood of a memory.
